Grey's Anatomy terminology

Summary:

Amanda Kirzner wrote an article about how after going into med school she changed view on the show and how real it is. At the end of the article she states, "Despite the unrealistic nature of 'Grey's Anatomy,' it is still one of my favorites."

Author's argument:

In this article Kirzner seems to argue that she knew that the facts about residency in Grey's were incorrect but they became more obvious after becoming a general surgeon. I knew that her evidence was true because I am a watcher of Grey's Anatomy and this is how I came to the realization that I want to be a Nurse. She uses well known events from the show that could never happen in real life. For example, when Izzie cuts Denny's wire on his left ventricle assist device to get him a spot on the transplant list she gets close to no punishment. In real life, not only would she be put in prison but would never practice medicine again. It is also illegal to have a relationship with a patient. I think that this article was a good way to put it. I was looking more for the actual medical errors in terminology then rules of the residents but she did an amazing job otherwise. Kirzner's general conclusion was that the show mostly steps over these errors to make the show seem more dramatic. It sure succeeds because it is many peoples favorite show on Netflix. 

My Critique:

The authors argument does support her main points. I enjoyed reading this article because I really connected with it. I am sure that if a person that didn't watch Grey's Anatomy or didn't like it read this they would not enjoy it as much as I did. The evidence she provides are very convincing because it makes since that the real world of medicine would be more strict. 

Conclusion:

I have concluded after reading this article that I can't just want to be a nurse because of a show. The world of television likes to make things a little bit more dramatic than they are in real life.

Carrie

          In my English class we are supposed to read a book a quarter and then write about it. This quarter I read Carrie, a famous book by Stephen King. After reading this book and picturing it in my mind, I decided to watch the movie so I could see how they would put this into a film. I choose to watch the 2013 version instead of the older one because I felt it would be more understandable for me since I live more in todays technology. I also heard that the 2013 version was a lot less creepy and I am not much of a fan of creepy movies. This movie was about a unique teenage girls high school experience as she deals with bullies and her insane mother.
          I really enjoyed the movie because of its plot. It really kept me entertained and wanted to see the end of the movie. At the end of the movie when Carrie kills everyone the special effects didn't look very real to me though which was a real damper on the movie. It was like we finally got to the big ending where it gets intense and the bloody scenes reminded me that this was just a movie. I guess this is good for people that get scared easily but its just a real damper.
          When watching this movie there were a lot of shots that I really enjoyed. For example when they first introduce the closet that Carrie's mother locks her in. All of the shots in this closet are very different in looking up and around the closet. I remember the way that they shots were made me feel scared about the situation. It really put myself in Carrie's shoes.

• What was the scope of the project?The scope of this short film was to film a video as a team. All of the entertainment classes worked on this and got together to film. It was very hard to stay organized with so many people on the job. Yes, it was like a real movie would be but with the crew made up of teenagers it was kind of hard. When it comes to cost it was kind of expensive to do because of costuming and props. We each sent out 3 letters asking for money and made about $2,500.

• What was your process?Our process started at the end of first semester when we got our jobs and started planning. I was the costume designer so as this I started to come up with what each character was going to wear in each scene. This was kind of hard considering everyone had different opinions on what this should look like. Will, the director, and I had the same idea but our entertainment teacher did not so we had to meet her needs and ours, which was difficult.

• What did you learn along the way? When it comes to technical learning, I learned how to use websites that involve how to lay costumes out for easy access. Professionally I learned how to work with a big group of people and experienced how long the planning, filming, and editing process takes.

• What would you do differently? Why? If I was to redo this project I would have made it more organized at the beginning. I also wouldn't have changed the story line half way through. That really got people off and our whole class had no idea what was going on.

• What would you do the same? Why?If I were to do this again I would probably keep the same story but give the characters different words. I enjoyed the idea of the story but it just wasn't portrayed as well as it could have been.

• What experiences will you draw from to enhance your next project?I have drawn from the whole As Though Lost experience mostly including all of the bonding with my peers. I feel like working with almost the same set of people this upcoming year will be so much fun because I know the people I am working with.
